A global movement to democratize medical device innovation
We're building the Linux of medical devices - open-source platforms for breakthrough healthcare technology
Democratize medical device development by making cutting-edge technology accessible to researchers, developers, and clinicians worldwide. We believe healthcare innovation should be open, collaborative, and available to all.
OpenLIFU and OpenMOTION are open-source platforms for Low Intensity Focused Ultrasound and optical imaging. AGPL 3.0 licensed, FDA breakthrough device designated, and battle-tested in clinical settings.
Growing community of active developers, researchers from universities, and partnerships with leading institutions like Mayo Clinic and Stanford. Together, we're accelerating medical innovation by decades.
Real impact from the Openwater community
Deployed OpenMOTION for stroke detection across 3 comprehensive stroke centers, achieving record sensitivity and specificity in LVO detection. The open-source platform enabled rapid protocol customization and cross-site collaboration that would have been impossible with proprietary systems.
Developed custom OpenLIFU protocols for depression treatment, contributing 15+ pulse sequences back to the community. Their open collaboration model accelerated FDA breakthrough device designation by 18 months compared to traditional closed development.
Integrated OpenMOTION's optical tracking with their motion capture ecosystem, creating a comprehensive movement analysis platform for physical therapy and sports medicine.
Leveraging OpenLIFU for advanced neuroimaging studies in movement disorders. The open-source architecture allowed researchers to customize ultrasound parameters for specific research questions while contributing improvements back to the community.
